Lodge & Sons (Builders) Ltd were contracted to undertake a large re-ordering project within the church.

The scheme was to provide the church with a useable space that could be adapted to suit their requirements and bring the church up to modern standards with disabled facilities and modern technology.

A number of issues were faced along the way. Various graves/tombs were discovered when excavating which were overcome with careful planning. The lime floor also caused some time delay due to issues with it’s moisture content which was monitored daily until floor laying could proceed.

The main bulk of the work involved excavating the floor to all areas and laying a limecrete base. Within this base under floor heating was incorporated to provide an efficient heating method for the church. The chosen floor finish was an engineered oak T & G board throughout.

Many other works were undertaken in conjunction with this. These include:

  • Full re-wire.
  • New mechanical and heating installation incorporating under floor heating and new boilers (Boilers housed within a small external extension built by Lodge & Sons)
  • Disabled toilet facilities.
  • Kitchen/meeting area.
  • New dias area.
  • Full redecoration to both walls and ceilings. Including a considerable amount of new lime plaster work.
  • Full deep clean of existing Crossing stonework.
  • Oak screen to Store area with bi-fold doors to segregate the area from the Chancel.
  • Full AV installation (undertaken by sub-contractor employed directly by the church).

What has been created now is a welcoming space in which can be versatile to a number of different needs and makes the church a more inviting pace for all to enjoy.
